video for your media project a free media dog r t v dot com. nobel award winning harmony years of violence over cuts unemployment and rising separatism but the e.u. wins the peace prize amid the worst crisis it's ever faced. talking to talk we're taking it rather there this time of gyptian is our protesting over the zero point zero of prominent mubarak loyalists and president morsi is fairly or starting his first hundred days in power as clashes now erupting between people on both sides. and british marines are arrested over the murder of an afghan man and the latest alleged violation by nato troops to emerge during

a military campaign in afghanistan. hello and welcome to our to thank you for joining us this friday it is five o'clock here in moscow on. while the nobel academy has decided that two thousand and twelve is best example of delivering peace and harmony is the e.u. its prize is a million euros money it can certainly do with right now but it will be tough to swallow up hundreds of thousands of europeans who have been angrily violently protesting for years against governments forcing harsh cuts and tougher living conditions on them equally surprised as artie's finance an economy pundit tax cuts are. this is that rise of the machines this is a machine selection that chose a machine the e.u.
9:02 am
is a tech knocker see governed by machines joined with the banking establishment to suck wealth from all of the citizens of the e.u. and send it to brussels as sent it to the banks hers and sent it to the world bank and the e.u. and the troika this is the rise of the machines this is a machine choice is as far as far as to call this is like giving the prize to frankenstein for being the best monster created during the past twelve months where they go from here or they're going to give it to next i mean they're going to give it to a genetically modified seed in india where farmers are killing themselves by the thousands because of companies like monsanto give it to months out the next year nobel committee i mean your track record for giving this prize to warmongers bank stars and corporate fascists is becoming quite impressive christine legarde i'm sure she'll get the nobel prize next year for having caused another one hundred million people to go into poverty and another few you know one hundred people committing suicide international investor and all for james rogers says the e.u.
9:03 am
may have got the prize for bringing nations together but it could actually fall apart. i assure you next week or next month when people are out rotting in the streets again in parts of europe they're not going to care about the stoke up peace prize nobody's going to remember it except whoever gets the check but the checks going to be spent just like that but there's going to be a lot more pain in europe europe has been spending money they don't have that's going to have to stop and it's going to cause more riots in the streets more social unrest more governments failing and perhaps even countries failing and perhaps even people falling out of the euro conceivably if you have a huge amounts of tension in europe and the euro breaking up that could increase tension not diminish tension and could lead to war again in europe i've seen it before said to be a long way away but it could happen again if this causes if the present circumstances cause the year old to break up the peace prize was conceived by
9:04 am
alfred nobel to foster fraternity between nations but as you can report some recent winners have done more to fuel conflicts around the world than to comment. the decision on the nobel peace prize is often politically motivated for a simple reason it's mostly about war and peace and we know that it's those with power who can wage or stop wars but where there is politics there is room for argument here we have the nobel peace prize laureates from the last ten twelve years let's try and bring up some of those arguments kofi annan served as the u.n. secretary general from one thousand nine hundred seven to two thousand and six while in office is stood by the u.s. and supported the nato bombing of former yugoslavia essentially bypassing the u.n. security council the move set a precedent in the poles cold war war that in some sense paved the way for more unilateral interventions by the way as was the iraqi invasion so kofi annan received his prize in two thousand and one another you unofficial on the list
9:05 am
mohamed el baradei who had served as the head of the u.n. nuclear watchdog for more than a decade until two thousand and nine he received the peace prize in two thousand and five years later mr el baradei announced that he regretted his silence over the u.s. invasion of iraq in two thousand and three at that time the un watchdog had no evidence of your iraq having weapons of mass destruction and maybe argued mr el baradei could have done more to stop the invasion on false grounds but he didn't back to our list several u.s. politicians among the awarded including president jimmy carter. from nine hundred seventy seven to nine hundred eighty one is peace prize in two thousand and two shocked those who remembered how was it an inspiration helped indonesia slaughter tens of thousands of people in east timor then there was al gore a presidential nominee who received the prize in two thousand and seven for raising awareness on climate change there were some arguments about that when as well and
9:06 am
in two thousand and nine the nobel peace prize went to president obama probably the most arguable choice of the prize committee because at that time he was only less than one year into his presidency he has just announced the surge in afghanistan yes he was pulling out if iraq but the deadline for withdrawal had already been set by the bush administration and it's worth noting that later the obama administration was working behind the scene to persuade the iraqi government to ask for a certain number of american troops to stay on but the iraqis didn't go forward so there was only one known american head of state on the list kang de jong awarded in the year two thousand the former president of south korea contributed to easing tensions with north korea and to the economic progress of his country whatever arguments one may have with regards to each of those laureates the nobel peace committee doesn't have to explain their choice of process is known to be very secretive and they wouldn't even say who the other nominees were until fifty years
9:07 am
after the prize was awarded in washington i'm going to. there's more peace prize reaction later in our cubism it's. called the e.u.'s one billion euros nobel prize money it still needs another for you know really in this day and more on the face of the european financial system and other stories around it. while rallies in syria and egypt draw much of the world's attention others are slipping into the background breaking news now from bahrain is capital where peaceful protests have turned into ferocious clashes after riot police used tear gas to disperse people in the city center security forces attacked demonstrators after they crowded into a main street in their ongoing calls for greater freedoms and rights for the shiite minority population from the sunni rulers months of demonstrations have seen heavy crackdowns by regime forces. and after
9:08 am
a short break we'll talk to political analyst patrick henningsen on the violent clashes in bahrain. seven elite british soldiers have been arrested in the u.k. on suspicion of murder in afghanistan last year an afghan man was killed in the incident with royal marines were being investigated off or whether they breached the rules of combat r t sara first in london reports on the secrecy surrounding the case. while there's very little in the way of details from the ministry of defense at the moment we know that those seven marines have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of an afghan insurgent this incident took place in helmand province in afghanistan here now they're being questioned at the moment they haven't yet been charged this is the disposition of murder and it's sort of that investigation that was launched the code of silence is very typical of most of the marines the great and now that investigated it's going to be now carried out by the service desk and
9:09 am
it's going to focus around the rules of engagement the treats operate under very very strict rules and if they get it wrong then they can be prosecuted now the ministry of defense been very clear that this is an insurgent but certainly as we said very disciplined in the way of a lot of questions that need to be answered at the moment of a very very serious allegations indeed but of course this you know this isn't an isolated incident at the end of last year we saw a british soldier a jail for eighteen months after he stabbed a ten year old afghan boy was he was drunk on vodka we've also seen the us to the widespread protest of the burning we have the very sucking. us keep your relating on the bulletin board is that fight is of course this is just the is that is that we know about at the moment that code is silent that is so common amongst the marines amongst the chief that are out there as they very rarely do these types of stories make it very this is just another one that he has and that we're hearing
9:10 am
about now. there's been scuffles in egypt thousands. descend on to her square for what's promised to be the first million man march since the presidential election what's been dubbed accountability friday has seen clashes between supporters of the muslim brotherhood and those backing a more liberal agenda cairo based journalist bel true has the details. what we seeing today is actually a double process quite conflicting ideas there's probably several thousand people in the here and now basically that the initial purchase was called two weeks ago by a coalition of liberal forces against the constitution and the constituent assembly and this carney drafting egypt's national charter at the moment which they believe to be two dominated by islamists i'm actually causing major issues like for example impacting women's rights and criminalizing blasphemy these kinds of issues the muslim brotherhood themselves called a separate protest over the recent acquittal of the defendants accused of basically
9:11 am
managing and organizing the battle of the camel which is one of the bloodiest battles we saw. in the eighteen day uprising last year when we got here is a mixture of islamist groups and liberal forces and got she seems between them as the islamist groups tore down the signs saying the demanding a new constituent assembly saying it was to his mind and at the same time the liberal forces that he would protesting fighting back i think there is obviously a growing political islam happening in this country as you can probably tell by the fact that there was a majority in parliament. because you have an islamist president on the ground we're also seeing that happening quite a bit you know the fights over the constitution where the ultra conservative salafist groups want egyptian penal code to be based in sharia law women's rights movement to be staging massive demonstrations including circling the presidential palace because he thinks that the proposed constitution which is basically saying that women will become under the ruling of islamic law in addition we had quite a controversial statement made by the supreme guide of the muslim brotherhood which
9:12 am
is of course islam is the president hails from recently stating that in fact. really war against jerusalem which they say is occupied by the jews so definitely we're seeing a lot of the sort of more conservative islamist ideals coming out both on a political level and on a grass roots level which is upsetting. people. hershel waltz turkey to come clean about its crimes its after a damascus bound plane was forced to stop another cut over suspicions it was carrying russian made arms for the syrian army. plus hezbollah says it sent a drone three hundred kilometers and took israel's tightly guarded airspace a message that experts say could signal that spreading us for more details and more after the short break.
9:13 am
the sun rises over what seems like analyst forest but here in new directions crime hundred kilometers north of light of all storm as in much of the world it's disappearing at a catastrophic rate. mortgages both illegal and those finding ways to outsmart the system for filing down the forests of the region for them profit goes well beyond the future of our planet and the result could be an ecological crisis we are on the hunt for illegal loggers and it's not going to be easy the forest is enormous and our chances are slim now for now we can stay in our dreams but as soon as we find solid tracks we'll have to drop our wheels and get out and move silently in order not to scare the loggers off. xander someone in ca has been a ranger for over twenty five years he can spend weeks at a time tracking a single group of loggers easier to work when snow falls in autumn it's impossible
9:14 am
to find human tracks and even transport tracks are hard to see after hours of driving we get sent in the right direction by word of mouth you can see that the ground is soft here which means that the twelve tractor trails are very fresh which in fact means that we need to be quiet in order to not scare them off as we get closer. this team says they're illegal but have no documents. alexander can now call the police to take over his work here is done he is overwhelmingly outnumbered there are too few rangers working in the cream or ski region and the w w f says the government isn't doing enough to stop it yes you. do it no one tries to stop them in just five years the force will be gone what will the people who live afterwards do it's a question more and more people are aware of today climate change in the safety of our environment as a whole are being discussed around the world and perhaps it's those small steps that might be a start to people living in harmony with nature. welcome
9:15 am
back to our tea with me karen tara back now to our breaking news and further protests being forcibly dispersed by police in bahrain's capital during the shield population's long struggle for equal rights in the kingdom live to london now and the thoughts of political analyst patrick canning son patrick good to see you here on archie bunker out tests in bahrain often fall off of the west's radar and we've been seeing a lot of that what needs to happen for them to take notice like they have in other countries. the problem is there's been a kind of a mainstream media blackout in the west regarding the situation in bahrain already we've seen c.n.n.'s award winning journalist amber lyon and her stories were
9:16 am
blocked by c.n.n. so what you have there is a network international network that's controlled by washington so it's totally illegitimate as a media source but that's one of the reasons why this is going under the radar the reason washington has this policy with regards to bahrain is because bahrain is a key piece on the chess board obviously they're positioning themselves. with the conflict with iran in two thousand and thirteen and the naval fifth fleet of the united states is stationed in bahrain so that's why this policy of heavy handedness is been imposed on the people of bahrain patrick what makes the situation a scenario so different from the west for example backing regime change is an other countries throughout the arab spring. well like i said all the policy united states policy with this sort of petrol petro dollar coming from places like oman. buffering qatar united arab emirates saudi arabia the policy is to always back
9:17 am
a minority ruler ruling over a majority in the case of bahrain the shiite population is majority there in the ruled over by a kind of brutal minority extremist sunni rule or rule royal family but you know that the u.s. will not tolerate any sort of democratic reform uprising in bahrain because they need a hardcore dictatorship in place because obviously the amount of military assets that they've got in that country and they relying on the bahraini royal family to support them in israel in their sort of isolation in. positioning to potentially track or at least minimize the influence of iran in the region now here at r.t. and i know that you yourself have been following this as well violent protests in
9:18 am
bahrain have been going on for much of the year where do you think it's all heading and can it actually end well they this is what i would call and of spoke about this in previous analysis is this is the shiite problem with bahrain because i re out with when you look at attacking iran or coming into some sort of conflict with iran a shiite country you have shiite pockets in by. rain iraq significantly in iraq lebanon on syria even parts of saudi arabia so these will flare up if there's any sort of preemptive strike in the in the next year or two going to iran and they will not be able to contain it if there is a sort of all out war in the region what you'll see is these minority petro monarchies imposing kind of rounding up she sure protesting they might even put them into concentration camps for all i know i mean that's the sort of situation you look at because they can handle that on
9:19 am
a multi regional scale is to be popping up all over the place they need iraq in bahrain and these countries to be absolutely stable for them to isolate iran the shiite population wanting democratic reform or human rights reform or anything like that is a massive problem for people like hillary clinton and william hague and washington d.c. barack obama they can't tolerate any sort of arab spring in a country like bahrain all right live from london with his thoughts on breaking news coming out of bahrain geo political analyst patrick henningsen thank you patrick. russia's demanding information from turkey on its claims there were russian made munitions on board the syrian passenger plane that was forced to land and on caught on a turkish premier says the cargo was destined for the syrian armed forces but provided no details as to what exactly it contained or who was responsible for it parties are in a ghost clothes following a story. syria called the statement made by the turkish prime minister
9:20 am
absolutely true again that turkish officials insist that the plane coming from moscow to syria will hearing russian made technological equipment to the airport for origin in moscow was absolutely adamant in saying that every cargo which leaves is being checked for security and they did not find anything illegal or questionable about this particular cargo for the plane of course the plane on route to damascus was a was essentially told to land in turkey in fact the pilots have described the entire experience as horrifying because they have seen turkish f. sixteen jet fighters are really close to the jet they said that this whole situation endangered the lives of the passengers now when the plane actually landed in turkey the people who were in board the plane say they were mistreated or rather treated rather brutally by the turkish officials by the turkish police on the ground the cargo was confiscated the plane then left for damascus where it is yet
9:21 am
unclear what exactly was on board the plane and what was the origin of this cargo but a lot of analysts are saying that turkey while blaming russia in syria for contributing to these to proceed in the region itself isn't quite so interesting it is well it is a rather well we did that in iraq were turkey rather is a major smuggling or arms for the syrian rebel fighters in fact it's one of the main sources where this is their free syrian army is getting its financial aid from course the free syrian army also a hot air base located in turkey until september off this year a lot of analysts are saying that that in fact points to turkey as being the main destabilizer in the region. dimitri joins us now with business and how has the financial world taken the you won the nobel prize. well with a bit of ridicule really because apparently it will not be enough the one million
9:22 am
euros of prize money that the e.u. get single or not getting how they're going to do that is not going to be enough to take the out of the crisis and we'll need another free and a half trillion in order to do that well let's talk to actually a real professional let's get chris we for now. let's let's talk to the chief strategist of this burbank investment research that i got my thought out chris good to see you so what did you think when you found out like everybody else very surprised to hear to the price of you know words of the you. you know it seems like they got the prize more because there hasn't been any war in europe for many decades rather than having done anything specific but you know when you look at it this is a year when there are very few you know we see of any normal candidates so i guess it was a bit of a struggle for the norwegians to find somebody to give to this year anyway but definitely a strange choice all right well we've just calculated that if the e.u.
9:23 am
keeps winning the peace prize for the next three and a half million years that will be enough basically to cover for all the losses what it needs to do to get out of the crisis do you think that in a couple of years we'll still have the euro at least. i'm sorry do you think in the next couple years we will still have the euro in the world ok i think that the largest change over the last couple of months in the spring i think there was much more of a risk of the eurozone breaking up of greece leaving but i think you know through the summer politicians of how do you you know more of a reality can see to the consequences that are very dangerous of breaking up to your of greece and since then you know the the effort is all torture to focus all towards keeping the euro zone intact keeping greece within it and i think that this peace prize awarded today will of the provide even more encouragement to the politicians over the next couple of months to act with greater unity to try and reach some sort of solution we might. view is that you know we probably will see
9:24 am
a bigger band-aid being put on the problem over the next couple of weeks or the next month or so but i still think that we're going to run into perhaps even a more severe phase of the eurozone crisis probably next spring i think it's quite clear that the money to put it made available to the c b is nowhere near enough to deal with the problems emerging in spain and probably in italy and as we then you know the germans look towards the federal elections in the autumn i think that's where the real issues will be whether germany will agree to relax its very strong austerity push and reluctance put more money on the table or whether or not it will stay intransigent and then lead to a crisis so you know all we can say for the moment is that we are more likely to reach some sort of a situation for a few months but it's going to blow up again next spring all right well just one final question for you who do you think with that logic in mind is going to be next in line next year for the peace prize oh i think whoever can keep peace around this
9:25 am
summit table to i think will deserve it and i think that there will be a lot of a lot of friction around the you see the e.u. summit tables in the next six months whoever keeps peace there will deserve it all right chris we for chief strategist ed says burbank investment research thank you very much. all right let's now use the remainder of our time to take a look at what's happening on the markets and then europe for the markets i'm not really impressed with the peace prize when the as you can see the footsies down point three percent led by miners like cows like mists and for gas and the fact is also down but by and dust your giants like siemens. now every second young person in greece is failing to find a job as the jobless rate has hit its record twenty five percent in july one point three million greeks. unemployed that month more than one thousand jobs have been
9:26 am
cut every day over the past year tough austerity measures are likely to push the country into another year of recession and jobless rate could rise but. all right on the currencies market the euro pretty much is the only currency the only factor on the market which is impressed by this victory if you could actually connect the two it has been gaining the past couple of weeks massively against the dollar but that's a good sign and the russian rubles if you see those people you mix together with prices. finally as it was happening in russia in the r.t.s. in my sex are not seeing any positive news coming out from russia we've just been hearing about capital outflows increasing and therefore we've had a pretty bad week for the obvious my six now down one hundred percent one hour before. and i'll be back in fifty five minutes time with another update our i think you. and you can stay tuned for a special report old and bold it's coming up next. well
9:27 am
